MIRI, June 28: Who will be the new mayor and councillors of Miri City Council (MCC) will be known this July 11. This follows a dissolution of the council appointment on June 30.
“The Sarawak government has decided not to extend the term of appointments of all existing councillors in the local authorities,” revealed mayor Adam Yii, after chairing the last council meeting today.
Also present was his deputy, Julaihi Mohamad.
Yii nodded his head when being asked about the possibility that the mayor’s post would likely be given to someone from the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).
On the city’s celebration date that was postponed earlier, Yii said the event would be held on July 13.
“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will grace the event,” he said.
On another matter, Yii revealed that dog vaccination is still ongoing.
“I don’t know about cats, but for dogs, the process is ongoing,” he said.
Yii again advised dog owners to keep their pets inside their compound to avoid being captured by council enforcement officers.
“Council will do the removal of stray dogs roaming outside. We will not release the dogs once we capture them,” he cautioned. — DayakDaily
