KUCHING, June 24: A Covid-19 cluster involving 28 inmates of the Voluntary Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) at Jalan Puncak Borneo was declared today.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said Puspen where the Covid-19 outbreak was detected is located at Kilometer 23, Jalan Kampung Mambong, off Jalan Puncak Borneo, hence the cluster’s name “Kilometer 23 Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster”.
“A total of 122 individuals were screened where 28 cases were positive including the index case while 34 cases were negative and 60 more samples are still awaiting laboratory test results,” it revealed.
SDMC gave assurance that all Covid-19 patients have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the Kuching Low-Risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment purposes.
Meanwhile, the committee also reported three more new clusters today which are the Jalan Setia Raja Cluster in Kuching involving a supermarket at Muara Tabuan, the Sungai Separai Cluster in Tatau relating to a longhouse under lockdown, and the Jalan Sungai Antu Cluster in Sibu that involved an employee of a frozen storage company.
With five clusters namely the Sungai Ngungun Cluster in Kanowit, Sebujok Cluster in Sri Aman, Jelang Cluster in Betong, Tebakang Cluster in Serian, and Jalan Sukma Cluster in Kuching declared to have expired today, there are now 96 active clusters across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
