KUCHING, Dec 20: The construction of a new coastal road linking Kuching to Sri Aman is expected to shorten travel time to about one hour once it is fully completed.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the reduced travel time would not only save time but also make it easier for produce and products from Sri Aman to be transported directly to Kuching.
He explained that the new road would also provide wider access to the port and the new airport at Tanjung Embang, facilitating exports to international markets.
“We are providing easy and comfortable mobility for our people so that they can connect, and this opens many opportunities for them.
“Residents in Sri Aman, for example, can start something new, sell their products in Kuching, travel to Tanjung Embang, and even overseas, as Tanjung Embang will become a major hub encompassing our port and new airport,” he said to reporters after officiating at the opening ceremony of the Sarawak Islamic Complex in Sri Aman today.
He added that the coastal road will be developed as a four-lane highway starting from the Sejingkat Bridge to Kota Samarahan, continuing to Tanjung Embang, Sebuyau, and Lingga, before being connected to Gedong via the Pan Borneo Highway.
Earlier in his speech, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari explained that the construction of the new road would also serve as an alternative route to address issues with the village road to Lingga, which had previously affected nearby residential areas.
“I have used the village road leading to Lingga, where the condition of the road was poor to the extent that it affected residential areas.
“That is why I requested the construction of this new road from the banks of the Batang Lupar to the Batang Lupar II Bridge,” he said. — DayakDaily
