New cluster threat looms as Sarawak Cheshire Home reports 43 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, Sept 3: A new cluster is likely to form in Sarawak Cheshire Home at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here as 43 Covid-19 cases have been reported as of yesterday.

While it is still unclear how the infections have spread as investigations are ongoing, the Home was among the 281 locations identified across Kuching district with a high number of Covid-19 infections.


Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian revealed that a total of 1,411 Covid-19 cases were recorded in Kuching Division yesterday (Sept 2).

Of the figure, 250 cases were from outside of Kuching District with Bau registering 135 cases, Lundu 78, Samarahan 25, and Serian seven, while there was one imported case each from Sibu, Bintulu, Selangor and Melaka.

“Cases were linked to family clusters (417), workplace clusters (123) and social clusters (69).

“A total of 866 close contacts to positive cases were swabbed in 281 locations all over Kuching,” he shared in his social media post last night.

Apart from Sarawak Cheshire Home, Kampung Tabuan Lot also recorded 43 cases.

The other areas which saw double-digit increase in cases include Kampung Sinar Budi Baru (21); Kampung Panglima Seman Lama (18); Lorong Cahaya Damai (15); Kampung Kolong (14); Kampung Tematu, Kampung Semariang Batu, SPS Baru Stutong and Kampung Bintawa Hilir (13 each); Kampung Sikog and Jalan Astana (12 each); Kampung Pinang Jawa (11); and Kampung Rampangi, Kampung Tabuan Cemerang, Taman Indah Landeh and Jalan Cenderawasih (10 each).

The locations with more than five cases are Kampung Tanjong Bako, Jalan Stutong Baru, Kampung Astana Lot, Kampung Bako, Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar, Taman Sri Harmoni, Taiyo Yuden hostel, Kampung Tabuan Hilir, federal quarters, Taman Sepakat Jaya, Kenyalang Park, Kampung Gita Baru, Kampung Muara Tebas, Taman Sukma, Jalan Batu Kawa, Bandar Baru Semariang, Kampung Tabuan Ulu, Kampung Karu, Kampung Jutaria, Taman Matang Jaya, Taman Desa Wira, Taman Sri Permai, Kampung Tabuan Dayak, Kampung Kudei, Kampung Bumbok, RPR Demylaut, Jalan Semeba, RPR Landeh, Taman Greenfield, Taman Dahlia, Taman Satri Jaya, Taman Kubah Jaya and Kampung Semarang.

In Samarahan, there were 246 cases reported under Samarahan Division Health Office, while Serian reported 54 cases under Serian Division Health Office yesterday. —Dayakdaily
