KUCHING, March 24: A new Covid-19 cluster has been identified in Sarawak as the state reported 141 new cases today.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said the Chupak cluster in Kampung Chupak, Serian currently has 57 confirmed cases.
“The index case is a 27-year-old woman who tested positive on March 9. She is working in Kuching and possibly gotten infected through community infection.
“The infection then spread to family members and other individuals in Kampung Chupak through close and social contact,” the statement said.
Tracing and screening of her family members and close contacts successfully yielded 56 positive cases detected in Serian and Samarahan districts.
So far out of 338 individuals screened, 41 cases were negative while 240 are pending laboratory test results.
This brings the number of active clusters in the state to 27. Of the total, six clusters reported new cases today.
Meanwhile, SDMC also announced the end of the Geronggang Cluster in Sibu after it registered zero cases in the last 28 days while the remaining clusters are still active. — DayakDaily
