New chiefs for MBKS, DBKU and SMC revealed

KUCHING, Aug 22: Datuk Wee Hong Seng is the new Kuching City South Council (MBKS) mayor.

This was disclosed by Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian after a cabinet reshuffle announcement by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg here earlier today.

Dr Sim also announced that the new Datuk Bandar for Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) would be former Deputy Finance Secretary Datuk Junaidi Raduan, while the new Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman will be Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Pelawan chairman Clarence Ting.

“This is very good for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) moving forward.

“The MBKS chairman is Wee Hong Seng. We want to select the best people to do the job. It’s also good that SUPP has many people to choose from,” he said.

Dr Sim said Wee has had seven years of experience as a DBKU councillor, and his appointment would bring a breath of fresh air to MBKS.

“Basically MBKS and DBKU are twins. So they need to work hand-in-hand.

“We would like to thank Mayor Datuk James Chan for doing a fantastic job for the past 11 years in MBKS. As a whole (we are) looking forward to younger people to do the job.

“There has been so much speculation, and I’m so happy (at) the Chief Minister for selecting the best people for the job,” he said.

All that is left now is to wait for them to be formally sworn in by the TYT at a later date which has yet to be disclosed, Dr Sim added. — DayakDaily
