KUCHING, Aug 27: The new federal Cabinet lineup is a big disappointment because 90 per cent of it consists of the same personalities constituting the previous Cabinet, said Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

“While we were disappointed that there was no change from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, we still hope that at least, there would be new ministers appointed from the PN bloc to replace those incompetent and almost invisible ones.

“However, even that hope was dashed when the new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the so-called new Cabinet lineup this morning.

“In actual fact, 90 per cent of the same personalities constituting the previous incompetent Cabinet were reappointed as Ministers and Deputy Ministers,” he said in a statement today.

Chong claimed that all Malaysians were hoping for a new government to administer the nation for the simple reason that the previous Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his Cabinet had “failed terribly” in managing the Covid-19.

He said during the previous government’s tenure, Malaysia became the only country put under the Emergency Order because of the pandemic and yet six months later, the country saw an escalation of new Covid-19 cases and more deaths per day.

He also said the country’s economy was going south, with many existing foreign investors threatening to leave the country.

“However, as things turn out, PH did not succeed in replacing the PN government, having commanded 105 out of 220 MPs in Parliament.

“The crucial number for the PN government came finally from Sarawak’s Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) with its 18 MPs throwing their full support for Ismail Sabri unconditionally.

“Notwithstanding such disappointments, for the time being, we (PH) will continue to act as the responsible Opposition to help our country and her people until Parliament is dissolved when the people would then have a chance to elect a new government,” he added. – DayakDaily
