KUCHING, Dec 6: The new Sebauh Bridge spanning 728.56 meters across Batang Kemena is now open for public use ahead of the upcoming Christmas festivities.

In a Facebook post by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who pre-launched the bridge, said the bridge is not just a physical construction, but a transformative project promoting economic development, social advancement and the welfare of the people.

“Following today’s pre-launch, this bridge can be used by the public. Today, we fulfil the promise that this road will be accessible before the Christmas celebration.

“I am very satisfied because this project has successfully outpaced the schedule by nearly a month; it is a commendable achievement,” he said at a press conference after officiating the Pre-Launch Ceremony of the Sebauh Bridge in Bintulu today.

Measuring 12 meters wide, the bridge serves as a new lifeline that will strengthen the road network between Sebauh and its surrounding areas.

Uggah said its opening will also boost Sebauh’s economy, enhance trade and support local businesses.

The bridge fully replaces the ferry service, reducing travel time for residents commuting to Sebauh and nearby areas.

Uggah added that the project is part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts to improve rural infrastructure and ensure everyone has access to basic roads and bridges. — DayakDaily
