KUCHING, Feb 23: Persatuan Fatt Lung Tang Kuching’s nearly 20-year-old temple is set for major renovation after receiving RM307,019 in support from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), part of the estimated RM600,000 needed for the project.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap handed over the Unifor grant to the temple committee chairman Hong Teck Chai at the temple yesterday (Feb 22).

In a statement, Yap said the upgrading works would help provide a safer and more conducive environment for worshippers and the surrounding community.

“My service centre will continue assisting eligible religious bodies in applying for Unifor support to ensure community facilities remain functional and accessible,” he said.

Hong said the temple, which was first opened in 2007, now has several interior sections in need of repair, including the roofing.

“After nearly two decades, some parts of the temple, including the roofing, have become dilapidated and require urgent repairs to ensure the safety and comfort of devotees,” he told DayakDaily.

The temple committee expressed appreciation to the Sarawak government and Yap for the allocation, noting that the funds will go towards essential renovation and infrastructure improvements. – DayakDaily
