KUCHING, Sept 6: Padang Merdeka was a sea of colour and devotion this morning as nearly 9,600 participants from 209 contingents gathered for the Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul 1447H/2025M celebration, one of the State’s largest assemblies to honour Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, who serves as the advisor for the celebration, praised the overwhelming turnout.
“Alhamdulillah, the grounds are now filled with thousands of participants representing a wide spectrum of our community.
“Contingents today include uniformed bodies, State and federal government departments, statutory and private agencies, mosques and suraus, village committees, associations and clubs, universities and colleges, vocational centres, Hadrah groups, as well as secondary and primary schools,” he said in his speech.

The parade was organised along two routes: a 3.2-kilometre village route and a 3.04-kilometre city route.
Sarawak Governor (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar led the procession alongside Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and other dignitaries.
The early morning air was filled with excitement and purpose as participants from across Sarawak streamed into the venue as early as 6.30am.
The parade featured vibrant uniforms, rhythmic Hadrah performances, and neatly arranged contingents marching in disciplined formation.
