KUCHING, Nov 19: Nearly 1.14 million Sarawakians from the B40 and M40 groups have received direct cash assistance provided by the government in 2020 and 2021.

According to a report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, this was said by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz when answering a question from Baram MP Anyi Ngau at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

He said for 2020 and 2021, there were 900,000 recipients in the B40 category who have received the cash assistance amounting to RM3.59 billion, while a total of 240,000 recipients in the M40 category received cash assistance worth RM0.29 billion.

“This brings the total number of recipients for Sarawak to almost 1.14 million, with an allocation of RM3.88 billion,” said Tengku Zafrul.

Tengku Zafrul noted that being concerned about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the government has ensured that the direct cash assistance provided has been channelled to those in need.

“The government has provided several types of cash assistance that have been improved since last year, namely the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH), Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN), Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR), and Covid-19 Special Assistance (BKC),” he added. — DayakDaily
