SIBU, Jan 13: Native Customary Rights (NCR) land owners in Ulu Oya, Sekuau and Pakoh have expressed their gratitude to the Sarawak government, after their land was approved for perimeter survey under Section 18.
This was confirmed by chairman of the Oya, Sekuau and Pakoh Area Development Association, councillor Henry Kanyan Vincent Rawing.
“Land and Survey is only waiting to assign staff to carry out the field measurement works,” Kanyan, who was representing 64 longhouses in the Batang Oya, Sekuau, Stapang and Pakoh area, told a press conference here today.
Kanyan, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth exco member, said they had visited the Land and Survey office to speed up the NCR land measurement work.
“Among the issues being discussed were applying for the status of land in Sekuau and the government-owned land gazetted in the former Rascom land ownership for development projects in Sekuau,” he said.
In addition, he said the visit also discussed the development of land for Land and Survey to measure under the umbrella of longhouse land in Sekuau.
“We also apply for the grant of land title in Sekuau to all the original inhabitants of the area, as well as requesting for a lot for pepper planting in Sekuau where the land was formerly under Sekuau,” he said.
Last December, a total of 998 NCR landowners from Pakoh, Sekuau, Bejait, Seluan and Ulu Tebalai areas applied for the Land and Survey to speed up the process of land acquisition in the area to Section 18.
The 33,000 hectare NCR lands were relocated to Section 6 in 2016.
In early 2017, the Land and Survey held a dialogue session with all the landowners and notified them of Section 18. — DayakDaily
