LUNDU, Aug 22: The issuance of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land titles of 456 lots involving 395 residents in Kampung Stungkor Baru here will now be accelerated following completion of documentation works which has been carried out since 2010.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik said the land documentation initiative by the village’s Land Bureau in collaboration with DBNA will be forwarded to the Sarawak Land and Survey Department (JTS) for perimeter survey and issuance of title deeds.

“The purpose of this documentation is to let the landowners identify the location of their land as well as the demarcation, between the landowners.

“Therefore, DBNA took the initiative to help the Sarawak government through JTS to measure the land lots of the residents after having realised that the issue of land as sites to build houses is decreasing while the local population continues to increase,” he said when speaking at the Traditional Village and Agricultural Lot Documentation Letter Handover Ceremony at Kampung Stungkor Baru last Saturday (Aug 20).

Ik Pahon also revealed that a taskforce comprising DBNA, JTS and elected representatives, has been set up to facilitate and speed up perimeter surveys of NCR land under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code in their respective constituencies.

At the same ceremony, Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang urged villagers who have yet to document their land to do so in order to expedite the issuance of land titles.

He also announced that the addition of Kampung Judin, Kampung Biawak and Kampung Raso 1 as the next locations for the speeding up of NCR land perimeter surveys. — DayakDaily
