KUCHING, Aug 31: Excessive and negative politicking, especially in Peninsular Malaysia, somewhat spoiled the mood of the National Day 2023 celebration, says Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos.
In a statement today, Minos said ordinary Malaysians are getting tired and fed up with quarrels in the country.
“They wish politicians on all sides to stop the nonsense and focus on solving economic problems. Even our Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg agreed and echoed the same thing.
“People are crying out for the high and rising cost of living to come down with possible incomes improving. It is already tough on the low-income groups, and even the semi-middle class are starting to bemoan,” he added.
Minos said those with children studying in the West and importers are not happy about the ringgit’s depreciation.
“Luckily Malaysians are a pretty patient and tolerant lot as they keep their economic grouses quietly and very much to themselves,” he opined.
Minos suggested that politicians on all sides, especially the top leaders, sit down and make some compromises for the sake of the people and country.
“What we see now and for the past few years has been endless squabling and quarrelling among political leaders.
“All this spoils the mood for a concerted effort to sort out and solve economic woes, badly battered by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the national economy sees betterment and improvement facing obstacles and constraints.”
Minos said he is glad that Sarawak’s politicians see the big picture and are aware of prevailing national economic malaise.
“The politicians in Sarawak work together and unite for the common good of Sarawak. They are backed by the people who genuinely appreciate and value unity and harmony, which unfortunately, it is not to be in the Peninsular Malaysia,” he said. — DayakDaily
