Nation registers 3,631 infections with 18 fatalities today

KUCHING, Jan 22: Ministry of Health (MOH) disclosed a total of 3,631 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the country as of today, with 18 deaths reported.

MOH director-general Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today, from the total number of new cases recorded today, six were imported cases while the rest are local transmission cases.

“This brings the total cumulative numbers of positive Covid-19 in the country to 176,189 cases, with 42,814 active cases,” he said.

According to Dr. Noor Hisham, Selangor reported the highest number of new cases today with a total of 782 cases, followed by Johor with 466 cases, and Sabah with 453 cases.

He noted other states that recorded new cases are Kuala Lumpur (435), Sarawak (229), Pulau Pinang (202), Negeri Sembilan (197), Terengganu (178), Kedah (166), Kelantan (161), Perak (138), Melaka (82), Pahang (61), Putrajaya (39), Labuan (29) and Perlis (13).

Meanwhile, Dr. Noor Hisham revealed a total of 18 death cases involving Covid-19 were also recorded throughout the nation today.

He said Selangor reported a total of nine death cases today, together with three cases from Sabah, two cases from Kuala Lumpur, two cases from Sarawak, and one each from Johor and Pulau Pinang, involving 17 Malaysian and one foreigner.

“At the same time, a total of 2,554 cases of positive Covid-19 has recovered and discharged from the hospital today, bringing the total cumulative numbers of recovered and discharged cases involving Covid-19 in the country to 132,706 cases (75.3 per cent),” he added.

On the same note, Dr. Noor Hisham said a total of 12 new Covid-19 clusters has been identified involving 365 individuals tested positive for Covid-19.

“Five of the new clusters were identified in Johor, two clusters each in Selangor and Pahang, and one cluster each in Sabah, Melaka and Labuan,” he said. –DayakDaily.
