Nanta receives courtesy call from Kanang Usin seeking to make history as first Iban, Sarawakian to conquer Mt Everest

KUCHING, April 14: Kanang Usin is on course to make history as the first Iban and Sarawakian to conquer the summit of Everest, says Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The Kapit MP, who is also Minister for Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP), in a Facebook post on April 11, said he is proud of the effort by Kanang.

“I pray that all climbers and the ‘Keluarga Malaysia Everest 2022’ team who will depart on April 15, to have a safe journey and return in making the country famous,” he said.


On April 11, Nanta received a visit from the ‘Keluarga Malaysia Everest 2022’ delegation at his office led by Azmi Ifif Ishak as the delegation leader, together with Rina Jordana Adnan, Awang Askandar Ampuan Yaacub and Kanang.

Kanang, 42, is one of three VAT69 Commando Unit personnel members (the others are Pragash Murusgesu, 32, and Mohammad Hanif Che Ahmad, 28) who will be joining the expedition together with other climbers namely Azim Afif Ishak, 33, Ayu Wanirah Naharuddin, 29, former silat athlete Rina Jordana Adnan, 42, Ahmad Murshid Maktar, 35, Jack Oh Jin Heng, 37, and Kedah Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Awang Askandar Ampuan Yaacub, 54. — DayakDaily
