KAPIT, Nov 4: Over the last two years, Kapit has progressed into a flourishing town, especially now that it is finally connected via a new 176km road from Sibu since November 2020.
Although a lot has been done, however, its parliamentary incumbent Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi felt there is still so much more to do.
Speaking to reporters after the thanksgiving (miring) ceremony on the eve of nomination day ahead of the 15th General Election (GE15) held at his residence, Nanta said his focus for the next five years is to continue to contribute towards its development.
“There is much more to do for Kapit, although a lot has already been done. There is still room for improvement to bring further development, especially in terms of infrastructure.
“This I will definitely pursue, especially now that I am appointed as the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) chairman. The state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will give us a lot of funding and from there, I can focus on where and what is still needed,” Nanta said.
The caretaker Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs added that he will address the existing issues and challenges in the area in order to accelerate the socio-economic development in the region as well.
Calling it pointless to have all the infrastructure and services when its residents has insufficient or no income, Nanta explained that with a bottom-up approach and greater private sector investment for economic growth within the URDA are, they will get the people to participate actively in socio-economic activities.
He also emphasised that he will continue to focus on rural development projects with the incorporation of more socio-economic programmes to improve the livelihood of the rural communities.
Nanta will be defending his Kapit seat for the sixth term in GE15 which polls on Nov 19. — DayakDaily
