Nam Hwa Teochew Opera Society Singapore to host one-day camp in Kuching on June 15

KUCHING, May 5: The Nam Hwa Teochew Opera Society Singapore will be hosting the ‘Charming Teochew Opera Culture, Youth Learning One-Day Camp’ on June 15 in conjunction with the Kuching Teochew Association’s 160th anniversary celebration.

The camp will be held at the Penview Convention Centre (PCC) located by Jalan Bako, Kuching, from 9am to 5pm.

According to the press statement, the camp has a registration fee of RM20 per person and is open to participants aged 13 to 18 who are in good physical health. The fee is inclusive of a T-shirt, lunch, and a camp participation certificate.

Registration forms can be obtained at the Teochew Association office in Kuching, with the deadline set on May 30, subject to availability.

In this camp, participants will engage with performance techniques across the four main trades of Teochew opera, ultimately gaining skills in creating operas, singing, acting, and compiling their learning experiences.

Also occurring at the PCC is a forum titled ‘New Journey of an Old Association’, commencing at 1pm with Professor Lin Lunlun, a renowned Teochew scholar from Chenghai province, as the guest speaker. The forum will be free of charge, and those interested are invited to attend.
