KUCHING, Feb 27: The Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) has assigned an annual grant totaling RMM1,628,600 to 43 youth and sports organisations in Sarawak yesterday (Feb 26).

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the grants are supplied as a component of the State government’s efforts to encourage the commitment of the respective bodies in executing programmes and activities throughout the entire year.

“Although we know that the amount is not enough to run big programmes, it does not mean that you (the organisations) should do nothing. It all comes down to whether they want to run the programmes or not,” he added.

He also urged the organisations to provide timely feedback concerning expenditures that involve the funds that have been granted to them.

“Just provide us with a simple report on how you spend the money,” Abdul Karim said, emphasising that the report must be complete, detailing even the smallest expenditure as the ministry is required to report the spending to the audit and finance department.

In another statement, Abdul Karim revealed that in order for an event proposal to be approved by the ministry, the organisers need to ensure that the event involves other states and preferably other countries.

Other notable attendees include Deputy Minister of MYSED Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, MYSED Permanent Secretary Morshidi Fredrick, and Permanent Secretary to the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datu Sherrina Hussaini. — DayakDaily
