According to a press release, MBKS submitted three projects for consideration and won two—a testament to the council’s dedication to creating high-quality, community-focused green spaces.

The two projects recognised were the following:

  • Rejuvenation of Kenyalang Park under the Community and Neighbourhood Park (Subcategory 3A: Public Park)
  • Kuching Park Project under the City and Town Park (Subcategory 2A: Below 50 Hectares)

“MBKS’ initiatives for parks and open spaces are strongly aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 13: Climate Action, ensuring green, resilient, and people-friendly urban environments,” said the council.

Meanwhile, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng expressed his pride in receiving the awards, noting that they reflect MBKS’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being through its Greenage Programme.

“This recognition is a tribute to the hard work of our Landscape Division, Building Division, Engineering Division and the strong support from the community.

“Parks and gardens are the lungs of our city, and through thoughtful design and planning, we have transformed these spaces into vibrant hubs that bring people together,” he said.

He also extended his compliments to the park users, acknowledging their active role in keeping the parks clean and sustainable.

“Together with our community, we are ensuring that these green spaces remain beautiful, safe, and enjoyable for everyone,” he added.

MBKS reaffirmed its commitment to expanding green initiatives, strengthening public participation, and ensuring Kuching remains a model city for urban sustainability, inclusivity, and quality of life. — DayakDaily
