KUCHING, Nov 15: Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon has called for the urgent need to repair the 55-kilometre logging road in Lusong Laku and the 88-kilometre road in Ulu Jelalong, Baram.

Chukpai said both roads, which are the main access roads to longhouses in the constituency are badly damaged and connectivity is often being cut off due to collapsing bridges that are made of logs that have rotted.

“In addition, the road slopes also often collapse during the rainy season which causes the main access roads to the longhouses in the area to be cut off, making it difficult for the locals to conduct their daily activities,” he said when debating the Sarawak Budget 2025 during Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Sitting today.

He also suggested to the Sarawak government to take over all the logging roads in the area for rehabilitation, and upgrades including periodic maintenance for the safety of locals.

“I hope that the government will pay serious attention to this matter so that the people in the inland areas especially in Murum also enjoy safe and comfortable road facilities like other places in Sarawak,” he added. — DayakDaily
