Multiple areas in Sarawak placed under thunderstorm warning until 8pm (Dec 5)

KUCHING, Dec 5: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for multiple divisions across Sarawak, effective until 8pm tonight.

The areas affected include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei (Meradong), Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah (Matu, Dalat and Mukah), Kapit (Song, Kapit, and Bukit Mabong), Bintulu (Tatau), and Limbang.

MetMalaysia said the alert was issued at 4.10pm after detecting weather conditions that indicate the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain exceeding 20mm per hour.

Such conditions are either occurring nearby or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department explained that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for no more than six hours per issuance.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain cautious, especially those in flood-prone locations. — DayakDaily
