KUCHING, March 25: Mukah MP Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib deployed her own personal boat to rescue two fishermen reported to be lost.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre today, they received a call from a victim’s father at 4.06pm informing that his son, who went out to the sea to fish with his friends earlier this morning, has yet to return.

Following that, firefighters from Bomba Mukah were deployed to the location to get more information on the victims from their families.

The operation commander said both victims were found safe, and their boat ran out of fuel.

“However, while towing their boat back to shore, the other fisherman’s boat also ran out of fuel which caused them to be stranded 20 nautical miles from the Mukah shore.

“As such, Hanifah offered her twin-engine 330 horsepower boat to be used by the department and driven by her own captain together with firefighters to rescue the victims,” it said in a statement.

At press time, no further information was provided regarding the status of the rescue operation. — DayakDaily
