Mukah Kaul Festival: Premier urges locals to seize chance to boost economic well-being, attract visitors

KUCHING, July 20: The Mukah Kaul Festival is recognised as a platform for the local communities to seize opportunities to improve and boost their respective economic well-being.

In a news report by TVS today, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that by having such a platform, local communities could introduce their products to local and foreign visitors.

According to him, the tourism sector is an important contributor to the State’s economic growth; therefore, residents need to seize and use the opportunity as best as possible.

“Locals need to take advantage of this opportunity because it can help generate good returns.

“We (the Sarawak government) are targeting in the future, there will be more visitors from outside the Mukah area to this event,” he said in the speech text read by Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Sarawak Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah who also officiated the Mukah Kaul Festival 2024 opening ceremony on his behalf today.

Commenting further, Abang Johari said that the Sarawak government has spent millions of ringgit providing various facilities to encourage foreign visitors to visit Mukah.

“The government provides various facilities, including the construction of the latest Mukah Airport and road upgrades and provides various grants, including the Support Grant for the organisation of events, festivals, creative industries, and performing arts related to Sarawak’s tourism, arts, and culture,” he said.

Also present were Malaysia Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib; Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol; Tellian assemblyman, Royston Valentine, and Balingian assemblyman, Abdul Yaakub Arbi. — DayakDaily
