KUCHING, March 4: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should closely monitor his ministers after he has formed his cabinet to prevent corruption.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing believes that some ministers may turn corrupt over time.
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s speech on his cabinet appointment is very honourable. He wants to appoint members of his cabinet who are clean, (of) integrity and capable.
“He can pick Malaysian lawmakers having all those three qualities. But the problem is, can those he choose maintain those qualities over the years?
“Tan Sri Muhyiddin must keep close watch over his ministers to ensure that they keep their qualities intact and deliver what they promise,” according to Masing in a statement today.
Masing who is also Infrastructure and Port Development Minister believed that Muhyiddin’s experience as the former Menteri Besar of Johor as well as his experience in the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) where he witnessed intense internal fights between top leaders especially during the 80s will give him the skills and wisdom to monitor his ministers.
“It will be a difficult job. I wish him the best in his job in picking the best crew to man his ship,” Masing added.
On March 2, Muhyiddin delivered his inaugural speech as the eighth Prime Minister of Malaysia.
There were three major components outlined in his speech. First was social policies where he promised to provide quality education and healthcare and tackle the “bread and butter” issues which affect all and sundry in the country.
Secondly, he promised a clean government by choosing a cabinet comprising individuals who are clean, capable, and possessed integrity.
Thirdly, he explained that he was not a traitor as claimed by his former political allies but was just stepping up to assume premiership for the sake of saving the country from continual power struggles. — DayakDaily
