KUCHING, Dec 15: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin hopes the understanding between the party and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for the 12th Sarawak Election (PRN12) will be respected when the times come.

Speaking to reporters during a press conference today, Muhyiddin, who is also Parti Peribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman, said Bersatu is working together with GPS to ensure that Sarawak will move forward to be a more developed State.

According to Muhyiddin, during his meeting with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his residence a few weeks ago, they had come to an understanding that for the election, Bersatu will support GPS, but for the 15th General Election (GE15), Bersatu is open to contest in any Parliamentary seats.

“Abang Jo said that it is now PRN12, this is more about forming a State government, so I agreed. But for GE15, which is about forming the Federal government, it is open (for Bersatu to contest).

“That is what he said when we met and discussed the election, we have this understanding because what we want to do is to serve Sarawak,” said Muhyiddin.

Muhyiddin noted that PN has conceded to allowed GPS to move forward for PRN12.

“We will not participate as we have now shown, which is true,” he added.

Muhyiddin also assures that PN will not go against GPS during GE15 and both coalitions are working together.

On Dec 9, Krian incumbent Datuk Ali Biju, who is also a member of Bersatu, announced that he is pulling out from contesting and defending his seat as an independent candidate in the 12th Sarawak State Election after receiving advice from the party’s top leadership. — DayakDaily
