KUCHING, Apr 4: Muay Thai sensation and national champion Muhammad Johan Ghazali Zulfikar, better known as Jojo, will not be participating in the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma) this August.

In a TVS news report today, Muay Thai Sarawak president Jumaat Ibrahim lamented that Jojo is still bound by his contract with One Championship, preventing him from representing Sarawak.

“We cannot intervene even though many Sarawakians want Jojo to represent the State but with his contract agreement taking precedence, he cannot violate the agreement,” he said when met while attending the Sarawak Muay Thai Breaking of Fast event on Wednesday.

Jumaat added that the State’s Muay Thai athletes’ preparations for the games are at a satisfactory level and only the shortlisted would be representing Sarawak in Sukma 2024, which will be announced after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“We have a long list of Muay Thai athletes in our list and these athletes will go for the Premier Cup in Bintulu from May 24 to 26 before being shortlisted for Sukma 2024.

“We may need 15 athletes to be shortlisted including men and women,” he said. — DayakDaily
