KUCHING, Nov 7: Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) Sarawak secretary Andrew Lo has described Budget 2021 in general as a disappointing and timid budget.

Lo in a statement said apart from the RM1,200 cash handout to those earning below RM2,500 with one child to reduce the financial burden of the people, other measures to assist the rakyat were negligible.

“The tax reduction of one percent is worth only about RM300 after taking into account various existing rebates or relief

“The reduction in Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution to nine percent and allowing withdrawals is sacrificing workers’ retirement savings.

“The Socso Employment Insurance Scheme is funded by workers and employers contribution, not the government.

So, please do not claim credit for that,” he pointed out. —DayakDaily
