KUCHING, April 2: The 20th annual ‘Chithirai Pournami Festival 2019’, which falls on April 19, will be celebrated at the Mount Matang Sri Maha Mariamman Temple here for seven days, starting April 15.
An organising committee spokesperson told DayakDaily that Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman was scheduled to officiate at the event on April 19.
“Chithirai Pournami is a Tamil festival that is observed in the month of Chithirai, during a full moon. This day commemorates Chitragupta, who is the assistant of Lord Yama,” he explained.
There would be many temple activities leading to the big day itself.
Devotees carrying Karagam/Paal Kudom are strictly not allowed to do piercing (Alavu). They are to notify the management about their participation and to follow strictly the programme timetable.
Members, devotees and well-wishers who wish to donate in cash or kind may contact the temple management.
