KUCHING, Sept 24: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has an existing policy of blacklisting non-performing and errant contractors under its jurisdiction.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaint Bureau (SPCB) chief Wilfred Yap said that this is to ensure that only the best contractors are awarded with the projects so they can complete on schedule and the work is of high quality and will benefit users.

Yap who is also an MPP councillor gave this assurance to members of the business community and residents who had complained to him about the delayed improvement and upgrading works of the canopy and stage area at Kota Sentosa Mini Town Square.

In a statement today, Yap disclosed that he had communicated the problem to the Engineering Department of MPP and the council had already issued a letter of non-completion and the final reminder to the contractor concerned to complete the project.

He intends to put forward his recommendation to MPP that the guideline on performance criteria to grade contractors used by the council in its open tender evaluation should be more stringent, during the next full council meeting.

SPCB is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or who come across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it.
