KUCHING, Dec 14: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is prepared for the rainy season and continues to monitor the causes of flooding and affected areas, while implementing measures to mitigate rainwater ponding and flash floods to ensure the overall safety of residents.
According to a press release, the council has implemented several key measures to reduce flood risks and enhance safety during the rainy season, which include the trimming and cutting of trees that obstruct the visibility of motorists, particularly during heavy rain.
The council has also excavated earth drains in flood-prone hotspots to improve water flow, alongside regular drainage clearing to prevent blockages.
Additionally, the concrete side drain project at Lorong 1, Arang Road, has been completed, including backfilling and bitumen sealing works.
“The area had previously experienced water ponding that troubled residents, and the issue has now been addressed through the maintenance of a 79.6-metre covered drain and subsequent road resurfacing works,” said the press release.
During a site inspection, MPP chairman Tan Kai noted the positive public response and applauded the council’s efforts in implementing the drainage and raising up road level works, which have brought immediate benefits to nearby residents.
He also mentioned that to support emergency operations, the MPP LA Serve Team remains on 24-hour and seven-day standby.
“Two weeks ago, the team successfully assisted in easing traffic congestion following a fallen tree incident at Jalan Penrissen, ensuring safe and smooth traffic flow while clearing works were carried out.”
MPP reinstated its commitment to safeguarding residents and strengthening flood-mitigation efforts throughout the rainy season while continuing to urge the public to stay alert to weather updates and cooperate with instructions issued by the authorities. — DayakDaily
