KUCHING, Jan 6: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has disbursed nearly RM2.9 million for construction and repair works on houses for 185 urban poor families under the Urban Poverty Eradication Programme from 2016 to 2022.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang said a total of 31 urban poor families have benefited from the programme in 2022.

“For 2023, the council has yet to get the list of approved recipients from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

“From 2016 until 2022, MPP has already helped 185 urban poor families with a total cost of RM2,883,300.57.

“We will continue to do this in 2023,” he told reporters when met after handing over a new house to Rosli Keter in Kampung Sejijak here today.

Rosli, who is a general worker, is one of the recipients registered under e-Kasih that received a new house under the construction of new house for the poor programme carried out by MPP in 2022.

The 54 square metres single-storey house, which costs RM85,000 to construct, has three bedrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen and a bathroom and toilet.

Among other works involved in the construction were raising the house’s concrete floor. — DayakDaily
