KUCHING, Jan 21: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that residents of Jalan Moyan Sagah had been requesting rubbish bins from the council for more than 10 years without response, describing the claim as misleading and an attempt to tarnish the council’s image.
In a statement issued today, MPP chairman Councillor Tan Kai said the allegation, made in a recent Facebook post by Sim Kiat Leng, special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, was not supported by the council’s official records and appeared to be driven by ill intention.
According to Tan Kai, MPP did not receive any request for rubbish bins from residents of Jalan Moyan Sagah in previous years. He clarified that the first and only request was submitted on Jan 2, 2026.
“Following the request, MPP acted promptly by arranging a site inspection on Jan 5, 2026, involving officers from MPP, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, and the local residents,” he said.
He added that after an assessment and approval by the council based on site suitability and operational requirements, Trienekens was instructed to proceed with the provision of rubbish bins to the affected households.
Tan Kai also stressed that throughout the entire period, the residents concerned were not charged any scavenging service fees in their assessment.
He expressed regret that the issue had been politicised and sensationalised despite what he described as MPP’s timely and proper handling of the matter in accordance with established procedures.
Tan Kai further criticised attempts by certain parties to “steal the thunder” by misrepresenting facts for political mileage, saying such actions do not serve the interests of residents or the wider community.
Reaffirming the council’s stance, he said MPP remains committed to transparency, accountability, and serving the public based on facts and due process, and urged all parties to act responsibly when making public statements. — DayakDaily
