MPP Covid-19 guidelines for closure of selected night markets and facilities; except essential services


KUCHING, March 18: Night markets and temporary hawker centres at Prince Commercial Centre at 7th Mile, MJC Batu Kawah New Township, and Kuching City Mall under Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) jurisdiction will be closed temporarily until March 31 in accordance with the Movement Control Order.

MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang stated that the council has issued guidelines in response to Covid-19 outbreak whereby the MPP headquarter, facilities and public amenities will be closed throughout the Order period, while programmes, events and activities have been postponed.

The measures in the guideline are as follows:


1. MPP headquarters will be closed until March 31.

2. Essential services will be operational including waste collection; grass cutting, drainage cleaning and urban cleanliness maintenance; vector control on stray dogs; public health service; enforcement; administration (handling public inquiries and complaints); and Customer Service counter (8am to 1pm).

3. Restaurants, food outlets and food stalls at markets can remain open for takeways and the public are not allowed to eat and drink or dine in the premises. Food operators are not allowed to place chairs and tables for dining at premises.

4. Markets at 3rd Mile, Kota Sentosa town and Padawan town; food court on first floor of 3rd Mile Market; temporary hawker centres at Kota Sentosa, Matang Jaya (in front of Sunshine shop and behind Matang Jaya Fama agro market, Taman Malihah and Taman Desa Wira) selling daily essentials can continue to operate except selling of live animals.

Operators and traders however must practice social distancing and high level of clealiness and hygiene.

5. Public and town libraries including at Taman Periuk Kera are closed temporarily.

6. All activities, programmes and assemblies under MPP jurisdiction involving more than 50 people must be postponed.

MPP urged all business operators at the markets and food and beverage outlets as well as the general public to give their full cooperation to MPP to care for the surrounding cleanliness and adhere to the National Security Coucil and Movement Control Order in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.
