MPP chairman questions comprehensiveness of budget for Jalan Puncak Borneo lighting project

KUCHING, Feb 14: More funds are needed to cover the recurring costs on the proposed RM3 million street lighting project along dark stretches at Jalan Puncak Borneo.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Chairman said that while federal government funding was much appreciated, there was also a need to clarify whether the money obtained by Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin on Feb 13, 2020 for the street lighting project was merely for building the infrastructures.

According to Lo, the budget for building the infrastructures was not enough without considering the cost of power supply.

“I would like to highlight that when street lighting is proposed, a whole package needs to be considered, such as the infrastructures and costs of electricity supply which are a recurring cost,” he said.

He stated that for each street lighting infrastructure proposed, funding to the tune of RM500,000 annually ought to be made available to MPP accordingly for such recurring costs and payments.

He explained that the rates collected from Puncak Borneo was far from enough to pay for daily services rendered and street lighting costs incurred. —DayakDaily.
