KUCHING, Aug 11: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) will collaborate with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) for a joint study as part of efforts to address poverty in rural parts of Samarahan.

MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos in a statement today said the study will focus on determining the basic causes of poverty which persist in selected villages as well as to find possible solutions.

“Are the reasons economic ones, cultural, lack of basic facilities, lack of opportunities, or all of these?

“Is it related to the basic attitudes of the poor? MPKS and Unimas will analyse and find out,” he said.

Minos added, once the details are sorted out, physical study and research will commence, most probably by early next year.

He also thanked Unimas for taking the initiative and also collaborating with the council. — DayakDaily
