KUCHING, May 19: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) will be working hand-in-hand with Akarseni (Kelab Anjung Karyawan Seni Sarawak) to promote arts and crafts, artifacts, costumes, songs and music as well as traditional dances in Samarahan.
A body that has competence, expertise and experiences on Sarawak cultures, Akarseni pledged to work seamlessly with MPKS in making Samarahan a popular cultural centre.
“To start with, Akarseni will come out with mural-paintings for the upcoming Makansari Food Street at Aiman Mall, in collaboration with a Unimas (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) group,” said MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos in a statement today.
He said the upcoming food haven Makansari Food Street will be held at Aiman Mall and a nearby street where half of the area will be dedicated for the sale of affordable food and drink catering especially for Unimas and UiTM students, while the other half will be used for the promotion and sale of Sarawak arts and crafts, focusing on what Samarahan artisans can offer.
Local visitors and foreign tourists can savour local dishes and drinks at Makanssri Food Street while at the same time enjoy and browse through art and craft pieces created by local artisans. There will also be artefacts for the antique lovers.
“All these can be done in the presence of local music and traditional dances,” said Minos.
“Makansari Food Street will thus be both a food as well as a cultural centre of Samarahan. It will definitely be popular as tourists and visitors want one centralised place in Kota Samarahan where they can find all the fun under one roof,” he added. — DayakDaily
