MPKS feels vindicated as Intan intersection traffic light system set to be activated tomorrow

KUCHING, April 14: The activation of the traffic light system at the Intan intersection (roundabout) along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway scheduled tomorrow (April 15) is a cause for jubilation and a moment of vindication for Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS).

MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos said that the horrible traffic congestion along Kota Samarahan Expressway due to the traffic lights intersection upgrading works was the “worst crisis” faced by the Council.

“People criticised and teased me and MPKS every day. So, of course, we don’t feel good about it, but we understand the public’s frustration and anger.

“With the traffic light systems at Tabuan Tranquility (intersection) and Stutong (intersection) in operation and the Intan (intersection) activated tomorrow (April 15), I believe the traffic situation is getting better.

“Several people are saying thank you. We feel vindicated and happy that the traffic jam problem will be over soon,” he said in a statement today following a meeting for MPKS’ new corporate social responsibility programmes at a hotel here.

Grateful that a professional rescue contractor was roped in for the project to upgrade five roundabouts to intersections, Minos expressed optimism that the traffic light systems could be completed before November or even earlier.

“This will be a cause for jubilation and a time for cheers,” he added.

The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak Samarahan Division announced that the Intan traffic light intersection would be activated tomorrow at 10am.

While road upgrading works are still in progress, the authority advised road users to exercise caution when driving on the affected roads and to obey all traffic instructions for their safety until the works are completed. — DayakDaily
