MPKS chairman: Completion of Jln Datuk Mohd Musa, Kota Samarahan in Sept will ease traffic congestion

Dato Peter Minos

KUCHING, Jan 19: The completion of Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, Kota Samarahan in September and the installation of traffic lights at Kota Samarahan’s three roundabouts by November will significantly alleviate the traffic congestion plaguing the area, says Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos.

In a statement released by Minos, he stated that MPKS was briefed yesterday by Musyati Sdn Bhd, the contractor for Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, and the Public Works Department (JKR) of Sarawak, who stated that the improved dual-lane road will be completed on schedule in September this year.

“Kota Samarahan residents who have been subjected to daily traffic jams will be relieved once it is completed. MPKS as well,” he added.

He went on to say that Musyati is also constructing a special parking lot for SMK Muara Tuang on MPKS’ request.

Minos added that the school and parents had previously requested the parking lot.

“The entire length of Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa will be illuminated by 140 street lights as well, making it relatively safe to use at night,” he highlighted.

Furthermore, he mentioned that Musyati will restore and improve the bus stops and bin centres along Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa with public safety in mind, something that MPKS has long insisted on.

“When this Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa is completed in September and the traffic lights in Kota Samarahan’s three roundabouts are done by November, traffic jams will be greatly sorted out.

“The autonomous rail transit (ART) will then begin in earnest. To MPKS, this is great news,” he remarked. — DayakDaily
