KUCHING, May 30: In a strategic meeting held on May 29 at the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) office, MPKS and the Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs (DUBS) in Kota Samarahan engaged in a comprehensive dialogue to bolster business growth and support for local Bumiputera traders.

According to a press statement issued by MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos, DUBS Samarahan is now under a new chairman, Ir Zamhuri Drahman.

Minos stated that MPKS emphasises a pro-business and business-friendly stance while adhering to laws, rules, and regulations, and that MPKS will enforce laws fairly and judiciously, with each case judged on its own merits.

“There is no compromise on illegal extension, for instance, if it negatively impacts public safety or convenience. The law will prevail. MPKS will enforce them,” he said.

Addressing concerns from DUBS regarding support for Bumiputera entrepreneurs, MPKS highlighted ongoing efforts to facilitate business operations.

Key initiatives include the development of markets in Tambirat Asajaya and Jambatan Samarahan, and the establishment of food stalls like Makansari at Aiman Mall, catering to students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

“All for the Bumi traders, and MPKS is pleased that they are providing opportunities to local Bumis.

“MPKS will continue to support small struggling Bumi traders and suppliers in a growing and thriving Kota Samarahan, while also protecting the overall business environment,” Minos added.

He further assured that MPKS is committed to minimising bureaucratic hurdles to ensure a thriving business environment in Kota Samarahan.

He acknowledged the vital role of businesspeople and traders in the region’s development and reaffirmed that all government projects will adhere to strict rules and regulations through open tenders.

Furthermore, in an effort to enhance the skills and knowledge of new Bumiputera entrepreneurs, MPKS suggested organising business seminars and training sessions in collaboration with DUBS.

Minos remarked that the proposal was well received by DUBS, which expressed optimism about a productive and cooperative relationship with MPKS.

“DUBS Samarahan is happy that MPKS is committed to giving opportunities and facilities to Bumi traders in Kota Samarahan. DUBS is looking forward to a friendly and fruitful relation with MPKS,” he said. — DayakDaily
