MIRI, Aug 21: A 34-year-old local motorcyclist was killed on the spot after being hit by a car at the Lorong Cahaya 2 junction near Miri Hospital here late last night.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the fatal crash occurred at about 10pm yesterday (Aug 20) involving a motorcycle and a car.
“Initial investigation revealed that the car, coming from Bakam heading towards Taman Lopeng, collided with the motorcycle which had stopped at the Lorong Cahaya 2 junction as the car was making a turn,” he said in a statement today.
The victim died at the scene and the body was later sent to the Forensic Department of Miri Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police are appealing to witnesses to come forward to assist the investigation by contacting Traffic Investigating Officer Insp Mohd Faizul Ab Rahim at 014-8582582 / 085-430479 or the nearest police station.
Mohd Farhan also reminded the public to promptly lodge reports following any accident and advised all road users to always practise safe and responsible driving in compliance with traffic laws to avoid endangering others. — DayakDaily
