MIRI, Dec 5: A motorcyclist in his forties was killed in a crash along the Pan Borneo Highway near Rumah Robert, Batu Niah, yesterday (Dec 5) after his motorcycle collided with an oncoming car while attempting to cross the road at a P-turn.
“He was coming from the Rumah Robert junction towards Rumah Lembung when he attempted to make a P-turn crossing. A car travelling from Miri towards Bintulu was unable to avoid the motorcycle and struck it,” Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said in a statement.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His 37-year-old pillion rider was taken to Batu Niah Clinic for treatment, while the driver and passenger of the car were uninjured.
Police have opened an investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
Mohd Farhan urged road users to stay alert, exercise caution and obey traffic rules at all times to prevent further accidents. — DayakDaily
