Motorcyclist killed in accident at Jalan Sungai Bidut, police looking for info on lorry driver involved

The victim was killed at the scene of the accident, though the lorry that is believed to be involved is still missing.

SIBU, May 17: A 53-year-old man was killed after he was involved in an accident while riding his motorcycle which collided with a lorry at Jalan Sungai Bidut at 12.40am yesterday.

The victim, Steward Sari, died at the scene of the accident due to severe head injuries.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Bingkok John said the accident happened when the victim lost control of his machine.


“Preliminary investigations found that he lost control of the Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle he was riding before he fell into the opposite lane and was run over by a lorry,” he said today.

His pillion rider, 57, was injured and is receiving treatment at the Emergency and Trauma Unit at the hospital.

It is understood that the two victims are from Thomas House in Bawang Assan here.

Bingkok said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of Sibu IPD is currently tracking down the lorry driver who is suspected to be involved in the accident.

He asked people with information on the incident to come to the nearest police station or contact the Sungai Merah Traffic Police Station at 084-217901.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added. — DayakDaily
