Motorcyclist dies in collision with van at Pujut 7

MIRI, Sept 19: A 22-year-old motorcyclist died after colliding with a van at the Pujut 7 traffic light intersection, here, today.

The rider, Muhammad Nur Syafiq Misad, was on his way to Lutong from the city centre when the collision occurred around 5.20am.


According to Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief, Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the victim was thrown off his motorcycle due to the impact of the collision.

“He sustained serious injuries and died at the scene,” he said when contacted.

Initial investigation revealed that the van, which was heading to Piasau from Permyjaya, was believed to have run a red light and collided with the motorcyclist.

A team of medical personnel from Miri Hospital was rushed to the scene upon receiving an alert of the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving. — DayakDaily
