KUCHING, March 12: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is set to develop a new strategy to attract tourists under the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign following ongoing conflicts in West Asia.
In a TVS news, Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said a meeting would be held today to discuss the impact of the crisis, which has disrupted the country’s tourism promotion activities.
“This will inevitably have an effect, but we will formulate a new strategy to continue our promotional efforts.
“We will discuss the matter first, and I will be informed of the outcome,” he told reporters after attending Ramadan Iftar event in conjunction with VM2026 at Mengkuang Titi Homestay in Bukit Mertajam on Wednesday (March 11).
The event, which drew around 2,000 visitors, highlighted Malaysia as a tourism destination celebrated for its rich culture, traditions, and social harmony.
With the theme of “community spirit”, the programme allowed locals to break fast together, giving both domestic and international tourists a unique opportunity to experience Ramadan in Malaysia.
On the matter of disrupted flights to the Middle East, Tiong said the ministry is closely monitoring the situation, noting that major airlines such as Emirates and Qatar Airways have had to adjust schedules due to airspace closures in conflict zones. — DayakDaily
