MIRI, Nov 21: Miri General Operations Force (GOF) on Wednesday morning seized 135,000 litres of diesel worth RM2,095,650, from three tugboats and a barge berthed along the Sungai Baong riverbank near Jalan Permaisuri.

There was no valid documentation or permits from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) for the seized fuel, disclosed Miri GOF commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng during a press conference on Thursday.

Tan added that the seizure was made during an operation dubbed ‘Ops Libas’.

Acting on a tip-off, a Miri GOF team raided the tugboats and the barge and found the diesel concealed inside modified compartments.

During the 10am raid, the team also detained two Indonesians and an India national, as well as a local, between 22 to 44 years old.

The case is being investigated under Section 20(1)of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — DayakDaily
