PUSA, Feb 7: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state government would install more telecommunication towers to ensure better rural services and boost local industries, especially the agricultural sector.
Abang Johari said that mobile connectivity services were already available, covering the Roban-Ulu Spaoh area, and the state government had identified another 36 locations to erect broadband towers in Betong and Pusa area to ensure better connectivity speed.
According to him, four telecommunication towers had been erected in Pusa, and were equipped with a strong signal transmitter device to ensure better broadband speed and coverage.
“Currently, there is 68 per cent coverage of broadband in Betong area and there will be an additional tower in this one or two years to ensure fast broadband connectivity services in the surrounding areas.
“This would enable local farmers to utilise modern technology to work their farms, which would help boost production and improve their livelihood,” he said at the Rindok Digital programme today.
Abang Johari also said that since Pusa was identified as a food basket area, the state government wanted to turn it into a modern agricultural farming area.
He explained that with Pusa’s high potential for food production, the state government planned to expand the pineapple plantation and other fruit farms to meet the high demand from the export market.
“With the setting up of Sarawak’s Trade and Tourism office in Singapore, the demand for our agricultural products is high, but we can’t produce enough.
“That is why Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and other ministers in the state government are doing their best in this matter,” he said. —DayakDaily.
