KOTA SAMARAHAN, June 17: More businesses, in particular supermarkets and hotels, are poised to set foot in Kota Samarahan in view of the rapid growth for the division in the future.

Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos believed Kota Samarahan has a bright future once the traffic jam congestion is solved and the Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) line is in operation.

He claimed that Samarahan is currently the fastest growing division in Sarawak with an estimated growth rate of six per cent providing a pull factor for more businesses such as supermarkets and a four or five star hotel to set foot there in the coming years.

Recently, another supermarket, Emart, is poised to open a new outlet at the Summermall area.

“I asked some of the supermarket operators why they are flocking in to Kota Samarahan and their replies are because Samarahan is fast developing and expanding, the future is bright, potentials great, shining future especially when traffic jam problems are solved and the coming ART and many things firming up.

“The businessmen know the future and can make wise business predictions before they put in their investments.

“The coming of traffic lights at the roundabouts to solve serious traffic jam problems, the much-talked about ART, new government offices and more housing estates is seeing more supermarkets being set up in Kota Samarahan,” he said in a statement.

Minos noted the latest two supermarkets being set up were Lepapa at Aimall Mall area and Emart.

He noted the established supermarkets at Kota Samarahan are Farley, BB supermarket, the Choice at Hock Seng Lee headquarters area, Everwin and a few smaller ones like CS, Teck Kong and Survey. — DayakDaily
