KUCHING, March 16: The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that there are 125 new positive cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia as at 12 noon today, bringing the total number of cases to 553.

MOH in a statement disclosed that based on initial investigations, a majority of the new cases, 95, were connected to the cluster from a religious rally held at Masjid Jamek Sri Petaling on Feb 29, wich was attended by about 16,000 people.

“As of today, 12 positive Covid-19 cases are currently in intensive care unit (ICU),”

“In Malaysia, there was an increase in number of positive cases last week, prompting MOH to to announce that they are now at the ‘late containment’ level to curb the spread of Covid-19 infections,” Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba revealed.

At the same time, MOH is also preparing to enter the mitigation phase.

Among the steps which have been taken are making Sungai Buloh Hospital an ‘admitting hospital’ specifically for Covid-19 positive cases, improve the capacity and capabilities of laboratories to carry out Covid-19 detection and identify quarantine centres around the country.

MOH will also cooperate with non-governmental organisations (NGO) and private facilities to manage Covid-19.

The ministry urges all parties to cooperate with health officials to ensure the infection does not continue to spread in the community. — DayakDaily
