KUCHING, Sept 21: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has removed the requirement for certain private education institutions operated by private limited companies to have at least 30 per cent Bumiputra equity.
In a statement, the MOE said this followed discussions with the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) over the ownership requirement, as stated in the Private Education Institutions Policy Statement Book published in 2006.
“This alignment is made to meet the current needs of the education sector and to ensure that opportunities to participate in education remain open to all parties wishing to contribute to the development of education in the country.
“The MOE appreciates the contributions of all private education institution operators and will continue to work with all parties in the interest of the education of Malaysian children,” the statement said. — DayakDaily
